Sara Payne’s Report on the Criminal Justice System
November 5, 2009
Very pleased to see Sara Payne’s recommendations on the criminal justice system, totally agree with her comments on the way the criminal justice system needs to change.
It does, however raise a couple of questions:
1. How many times do the Government need to hear these recommendations? As a Lay Member of the first Home Office Victims Advisory Panel in 2003, we were able to sit across the table from ministers such as Lord Falconer, Baroness Scotland, Fiona Mactaggart, Harriet Harman et. al. and tell them exactly the same thing over and over again for 3 years.
2. In light of this report, surely it’s time to look at why millions of pounds of Government money are given to Victim Support regularly who are clearly not providing effective support and don’t seem to have an understanding of what victims needs are.
